Resources for Inquirers

Inquirer's Brochure

This is an electronic version of the brochure sent to all inquirers as part of the standard 'package' on initial receipt of a letter expressing interest in the Order. Together with The Way of St. Francis, it provides the basic information needed to prepare for entering the postulancy of the OEF.

The Order of Ecumenical Franciscans

The Way of St. Francis

The Way of St. Francis is also known as the "blue book", a reference to the pre-Internet years of the Order, when our materials were only available in printed form. This basic booklet, containing the Principles of the Order, had a light blue cover.

The "blue book" remains an essential resource for the OEF. In addition to the Principles, it contains a copy of the first Rule of the original Third Order and the format that we use throughout the formation process for our monthly report on our personal rules.

Principle of the day
9. As members of the Order of Ecumenical Franciscans, with a gentle and courteous spirit, we accept all people as a gift of the Lord and an image of Christ. A sense of community will make us joyful and ready to place ourselves on an equal basis with all people, especially with the lowly for whom we shall strive to create conditions of life worthy of people redeemed by Christ.

  • Henry Ham : Hi Robert. Noticed you are online.
  • James Schwar : I see that, at this moment, (4:30 Central, Sunday) you and I are on line. How could I communicate with you -- that would get your attention -- other than this Wall box? And: to what would I pay attention should you (or someone else) direct a note to me when they discover that we are both on line?
